Haiti Earthquake Overlays

Seismic measurements from USGS and Haitian fault lines

View a full-page demo.

This is a collection of three transparent overlays relating to the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

USGS Seismic Information

Based on data released by the United States Geological Survey, these overlays show the Modified Mercalli Index of two seismic events: the primary January 12 earthquake ('haiti-mmi-20100112'), and the largest aftershock on January 20 ('haiti-mmi-20100120').

Obstacles

This is an overlay indicating various obstacles related to the earthquake in the Port au Prince region. These include collapsed buildings, damaged infrastructure, landslides, and locations of spontaneous camps. Because of the density of this information, the tiles are blank below zoomlevel 12.

The data is as of late afternoon, January 26, and will be updated bi-weekly as more information comes in.

Fault Lines

This is a simple overlay showing some of the fault lines in southern Haiti.
