The latest updates provide users with a significantly more comfortable driving experience and showcase beautiful 3D map features on both iOS and Android. Mapbox has provided the map display system for LY Corporation since 2019, continuously improving map and navigation performance.

Simple and intuitive design

The usability of the app interface is now streamlined, with the map overview and driving view both simplified to show only the most commonly used functions and moving the search bar and menu to the bottom of the screen. The simple and intuitive design allows users to quickly access the information they need from within the map interface.

‍3D map features

The refreshed map experience uses new 3D landmarks of the Mapbox Standard style that enhance orientation and wayfinding to make the navigation experience more intuitive. The new maps also have a restyled color scheme that makes roads easier to see.

Users can easily switch between a 2D (top-down) view and a 3D view by tapping the compass button.

‍Intuitive navigation features

The new navigation interface design improves the visibility of the navigation panel at the top of the screen and makes it easier to understand lane-specific guidance. Bubbles above the route line make it clearer where to turn.

The scale of the map now automatically adjusts while navigating a route. For example, when a driver needs to make a turn, the map screen will now zoom in automatically to show the details of the intersection. In other situations, such as when a driver will be continuing along the same road for a long time, the map now zooms out automatically to show a longer preview of the upcoming route.

The latest enhancements to the Yahoo! Car Navigation maps represent an impactful milestone in the longstanding collaboration between Mapbox and Yahoo! Car Navigation, which will continue to improve the navigation experience for drivers across Japan.
