Pyramid Analytics set out to solve common business pain points with a user-friendly business intelligence platform that would provide users—from data scientists to store managers and cashiers—with clear location-based insights tailored to the questions they need answered.

Mapbox provides the location foundation for enhanced analysis

Mapbox provides Pyramid Analytics with an integrated set of map services, foundational geospatial data, and flexible APIs to serve as the core location engine of the Pyramid platform, supporting both data integration and visualization. 

Pyramid Analytics uses Mapbox GL JS to offer users a stable, accurate, and easy-to-use map experience. Large datasets are seamlessly displayed as map layers and managed on-the-fly, providing users with the most up-to-date insights in an intuitive map-based view. Users can draw custom boundaries to dynamically query and analyze data within the map experience. The visual design of the map styles can be customized to best serve data visualization use cases.

Thanks to the dynamic interactivity and smooth rendering of Mapbox GL JS, Pyramid users can start with a high-level map overview and zoom into specific areas or locations, making it easier to spot trends and investigate anomalies across different geographies. Taken together, Pyramid’s attractive and clear map visualizations make it easier for users to understand and act on location-based insights.

On the backend, Pyramid also uses the Mapbox Isochrone API to dynamically calculate areas that are reachable within a specified amount of travel time or distance from a given location. Mapbox isochrones enhance the data analysis experience because they provide the option to calculate travel time and distance using the actual road network instead of overly simplified straight-line distances.

Pyramid integrates Mapbox geocoding capabilities so analysts and nontechnical users alike can create custom ‘Geo-Boundary’ features and query data from map visuals on the fly. Platform users with Analyst access can create custom geocoded layers that others can reuse in the platform. Using the GenBI feature, all Pyramid consumers can ask questions and use lassoing to generate specific geocoded boundaries at runtime.

Premium geospatial insights with AI and Mapbox Data products

Pyramid Analytics uses Mapbox Boundaries to offer users a collection of official datasets for administrative boundaries, statistical divisions, postal codes and more. The option to use Mapbox Boundaries in a ‘flat file’ format enables Pyramid Analytics to integrate more advanced geospatial analysis features directly into their streamlined software.

Another Mapbox data product, Mapbox Movement, provides Pyramid with aggregated activity data to enables Pyramid users to analyze footfall and traffic patterns around locations of interest. Insights from Mapbox Movement data can enhance forecasting accuracy for business location selection, retail strategies, and competitive analysis.

Pyramid integrates Mapbox Boundaries and Mapbox Movement with its GenBI platform, which uses large language models (LLMs) to allow Pyramid users to ask questions and receive map-based answers in a conversational, chat-based experience. The GenBI experience enables users to examine, standardize, and validate data and combine it with highly precise, enterprise-grade datasets even if they do not have experience with geospatial analysis.
